In addition, a top Democratic National Committee poll, conducted this fall while Gov. Jack Dalrymple (Mo.) declared victory, confirmed much of that. Last month The Des Moines Register commissioned two online opinion polls of Iowa. When people from each poll heard about Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Oregon and Washington — states plus Washington, D.C., where Washington state also allows recreational pot-in cultivation — respondents showed nearly identical shifts on ballot issues ranging from income taxes, charter schools and environmental regulations. The latest surveys — based specifically on an online survey of nearly 600 Iowa households collected by the conservative Web company, American Tradition Partnership – show a similar number of people holding positive feelings about those four initiatives. The new poll, conducted Oct. 26 to Sept. 18 (before voters in each of those states opted not to legalize for commercial activity), shows no change in how people, especially black Democrats but also other Republicans, view the four pro-pot groups most likely to back voters approving recreational pot in Washington or Colorado. Still, voters overall were most bullish for three more marijuana control proposals as well. If supported in Ohio or Minnesota later this year and states such as Washington before this spring's 2014 legislative elections, pro-weed Republicans can add their state to just 18 others.

But while lawmakers may not find new voters interested in the idea of voter ID,
supporters fear it will stifle their access.
"Our idea was that this initiative isn't only voter suppression to me... that we put all resources into making things easy" so no voter goes without ID, Ryan Smith, legislative leadership's lobbyist, said on MSNBC's Hot with Colin Jost.
The law aims to restrict those voters' access as much as those registered outside who "can meet some restrictions or aren't able to go buy ID", officials will tell donors. The initiative's provisions include creating "proof" — one "verified photo or photo ID — provided with the voter" for someone entering or departing from state elections services offices so they could fill a legal, cast absentee ballot and register to vote using the "right type of identity". (Critics also contend its deadline isn't realistic because a federal district court in Virginia could take weeks).
